Heathrow Expansion Project
GROSS. MAX. Landscape Architects in collaboration with Grimshaw delivered a landscape Vision to mitigate the impact of the Heathrow Expansion. The landscape vision operates on various scales and timeframes, involving the landscape and communities surrounding the airport as well a regional landscape and green infrastructure strategy. To support the landscape vision and deliver transformative landscape proposals, we carefully studied the natural and cultural landscape. The strategy was supported by a three-dimensional Landscape Development Plan as an overlay to the emerging Masterplan and a Landscape Toolkit (providing a specific toolset of landscape devices (blue + green infrastructure for recreation, ecological landscapes, infrastructure landscapes, work + productive landscapes, community + placemaking landscapes, culture + heritage landscapes, arrival + departure landscape, airport supported + airport related facilities, and temporary + events landscape) which could be further developed into design guidelines and design parameters. The proposals advocated a robust approach to interdisciplinary and multi-functionality in design and implementation and promoted close collaboration with local communities.
